Aussie Inventions -

Success or Failure?

Introduction

Australians by nature are very inventive, our pioneering ancestors often developed labour saving devices to make their simple lives better.  They were noted recyclers for example they often used kerosene tins as drawers in their furniture, and when things broke they were repaired with fencing wire and baling twine. Hence the phrase "necessity is the mother of invention". Read

History has also shown that Australian are very poor entrepreneurs, many inventions have been developed to marketable products overseas and Australians have not benefited financially from their inventiveness. This has often meant that inventors have not gained the recognition they deserve, for example David Warren the inventor of the "Black Box Flight Recorder".

The New South Wales Design and Technology Syllabus requires that students in the Stage 6 year complete a Case Study on Innovation and Emerging Technologies.

This module is aimed at assisting students with the development of this Case Study focusing on:

factors which may impact on successful innovation
and

entrepreneurial activity
