U.S HISTORY

Notable Figures in United States History

The "American Society for Notable Figures" is trying to decide which figure in United States has had the greatest impact on the world today. The judging is almost complete, but the panel is finding it hard to decide between the four finalists. Knowing you are an expert on U.S History, the Society has asked you to assist in judging these finalists.

The four finalists are:

Martin Luther King

Abraham Lincoln

Henry Ford

Elizabeth Stanton

EACH OF THE SITES ABOVE HAS A PAGE WITH LINKS TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR RESEARCH.

WHO WILL GET YOUR VOTE AS THE MOST IMPORTANT FIGURE?

You will need to research each of the finalists before you make your decision; this will enable you to judge effectively. Some of the things you will need to consider are listed below:

Dates he/she lived;

Age/era in which he/she lived (Colonial, Revolution, Imperialism, Civil War, Depression etc);

What he/she is famous for (contribution to world affairs);

How would the world in which we live today be different if this person had not lived?

Use this summary sheet to record your findings.

Once you have researched each of the finalists, you will be ready to make an informed decision on which U.S figure has made the greatest impact on the world. You are to present your findings, as well as your final decision, to the Society in the form of an oral presentation.

As part of your presentation, you are required to complete a bibliography. To do this, click on BIBLIOGRAPHY.

You will need to print both the Summary and the Bibliography sheets.
