People have used many ways to communicate with each other since the stone ages from drum beats, smoke signals and message sticks to modern means like internet email and mobile phones. Some forms of communication are more specialised to cater for disabilities or special circumstances. Still other forms of communication were devised to keep information secret.

 

You have discovered an old brief case that belonged to a famous archeologist. In it you have found an encoded, secret, jumbled message. The message is in several different codes. Your task is to decode the message and act on the instructions in it.
 

Your First Task
1. You need to print out the message. (Worksheet 1)

2. Research each code to unlock its secret.
3. Record the decoded words.
4. Unjumble the words to form the message.
5. Complete the task from the message.

2. Choose the best code for each situation and write your reasons for selecting it.
 
Extension Task
1. Choose any code, find and record 5 interesting facts and at least 2 pictures.
2. This can be presented on Power Point, Kids Pix, Word or hand written.
